This is a video on how body parts are grown with stem cells. There are 2 strategies:

Build a part from scratch (using a mold)
Make the body regrow its own parts (with a chemical that fetuses use to regrow parts before birth)

I highly recommend watching this. It is the future of medicine as we know it.

About me: I am studying neuroscience research at UCSD. I hold a staff RA position in the Machine Perception Lab at the UCSD Institute of Neural Computation, where I design and program biofeedback software for autism therapy. I am also an RA in the Brain and Perception Laboratory, where I study under the innovative David Brang (PhD candidate) and Dr. VS Ramachandran. In this laboratory, I do imaging work such as EEG, DTI, and MEG on experimental participants with synesthesia, phanom limb disorder, apotemnophilia, and anorexia. I am interested in pursuing an MD/PhD in neuroscience and eventually a career in neurosurgery and neuro-device development.
